What is Big Data?
▷ Big Data ◁ implies working with information of great volume and varied composition, very often updated and located in different sources in order to increase work efficiency, create new products and increase competitiveness.
Big data
First of all, Big Data is information . It is so big that it
is difficult for it to work with ordinary software. It can be structured
(processed) and unstructured (dispersed). Here are some examples of it:
• Data from seismological stations around the Earth.
• Database of user accounts on Facebook .
• Geolocation information of all the photos uploaded to
Instagram today.
• Databases of mobile phone operators.
Algorithms, software tools and even machines for Big Data are being developed. In order to create a tool to process ever-growing information, new and innovative solutions must be created. That is why Big Data has become an independent technology area.
Big data characteristics
To reduce the imprecision of definitions in the field of Big
Data, characteristics have been developed that must be complied with.
Everything starts with a V, so the system is called VVV:
1. Volume . The amount of information is measured.
2. Speed . The volume of information is not static, but is
constantly increasing and processing tools must take this into account.
3. Variety . The information does not have to have a single
format. It can be partially or fully structured.
To these three principles, with the development of the
industry, additional V's are added. For example, truthfulness - credibility,
value - estimation or feasibility - possibility.
However, the first three are enough to understand that Big
Data is measurable, incremental and
heterogeneous.
Big data objective
The main purpose of working with Big Data is to take
advantage of it (analyze it) and direct it . Society has learned to produce and
extract large amounts of information, and there are still problems with its
handling.
Problems solved by Big Data
Today, Big Data contributes to solving these problems :
• The increase in labor productivity
• Successful advertising and sales optimization
• Forecast of the situation of national and world markets
• Optimization of products and services
• Improving logistics
• Quality guidance in attracting customers in any business
area
Big Data makes services more convenient and profitable for
both sellers and buyers. Companies can know which products are most popular,
how to form a pricing policy, when is the best time to sell, how to optimize
resources in production to make it more efficient. This allows customers to get
an accurate offer .
Areas of use of Big Data
• Cloud storage . It is inconvenient and expensive to store
everything on local computers, disks, and servers. Large data centers in the
cloud are becoming a reliable way to store information, available at any time.
• Blockchain . The revolutionary technology that has shaken
the world in recent years, simplifies transactions, makes them more secure and,
most importantly, copes well with processing transactions between a large
number of counterparties through its mathematical algorithm. .
• Self service . Robotization and industrial automation
reduce the cost of doing business and reduce the cost of goods or services.
• Artificial intelligence and deep learning . Mimicking the
brain's thinking helps make response systems effective in science and business.
These areas are being created and improved through data
collection and analysis. The forerunners in the field of such developments are:
search engines, mobile operators, online commerce giants, banks.
The Big data is a modern technological trend associated with
processing large data sets, which are constantly growing. Big Data is the
information itself, the methods of its processing and analysis. The insights
that Big Data can bring are exciting for business, marketing, science, and the
state.
